Definition Definition: Proprioception

Proprioception

A very precise definition of proprioception, is given in the Penguin Dictionary of Psychology:

‘A general term used to cover all those sensory systems that are involved in providing information about position, location, orientation and movement of the body (and it’s parts). The two primary groups of proprioceptors are those in the vestibular system of the inner ear and the kinaesthetic and cutaneous systems (collectively, the somatosenses).’

Penguin Dictionary of Psychology (1985)
