ABOUT THE BOOK

USER REVIEWS
"I am a fitness instructor and a huge "rocky" fan and wanted to see what sly recommended in his training guide. As expected we get the usual, "exercise changed my life" comments and a few really interesting insights from the man who was once named "body of the 80's".
The book itself is excellent reading, with good exercises. Even the diet is humane, with none of the "egg-whites only" expected from a Hollywood star, and he even recommends seeing a trainer before beginning the exercises shown.
All in all, thoughroughly worth buying, please write more SLY!"

"The book is not only a great read, there are lots of interesting anecdotes and stories, but it is very informative also.
Besides the exercises shown, there is also invaluable nutrition advice for anyone wishing to improve their quality of life.

I thoroughly recommend it."

"Great Book! Pictures are truly helpful and moving for someone at 50 plus to be in great shape makes all of us feel that we can too!. With that said the advice was straight forward and to the point. Standard and basic workouts, nothing too far off the wall that you would have to go out and buy speical products to get results like sly. He does mention his pudding a little bit to much here and there but otherwise great read on the star's diet and daily exercises. Also highly recommend The BackSmart Fitness Plan by Dr.Adam Weiss. Great book with many exercises for the midsection and great stretches and weight training workouts."

"I have been a huge fan of Sylvester Stallone for many years now and when i first heard that such a book as this was going to be released i was over the moon. Like so many others he has inspired me to 'pump some iron' down the gym and even start boxing, and now to get the chance to read about his training and eating programme etc is just fantastic and for the real die-hard fans such as myself, a dream. Just to confirm, the whole thing is written by Sly himself, he has not simply contributed to certain bits.

The book is split into four parts, the first of which is called 'Sly On Sly' and as you can probably guess this is quite a detailed look into Stallone's life, by Stallone. It goes through his childhood and several of his movies including Rocky, Rambo, and Copland, with information on how much he trained and what his training included etc. Big fans will probably know most of it from reading other biographies etc however there are still some little points that you won't know and its just interesting to hear it from Sly himself. There are also some nice photos throughout this section from Sly's younger days and when he was filming 'Rocky'.

The second section, 'Shaping Up With Sly Moves' is the real bulk of the book with pages and pages of different gym exercies for the abs, chest, shoulders, biceps, triceps, forearms, back, and legs. In total there are about forty exercies all of which have (a) picture(s) of Sly actually performing the move, a paragraph on how to do the move, a recommended number of reps and sets, a paragraph of what Sly thinks about the move and how effective it is compared to others featured etc, and quick tips for performing the move. All this really allows you to take some of the best moves to do in the gym, and do them properly without risk of injury and so that you can get the most from them. This section also includes a whole set of moves tailored specially for woman, and are modelled by Stallone's current wife Jennifer Flavin.

The third section is also a big one, 'The Sly Moves Eating Plan', which hasloads and loads of infomation on diets putting across one simple message "diets don't work forever!" Sly goes through eight of the most popular diets (in America anyway) and details why the don't work forever and what effect they have on the body etc, and he has tried them all so he knows what hes talking about. Sly then goes through all the things needed for a balanced diet such as protein, fibre etc and tells you the best sources for these things etc. Fianlly there is quite a detailed plan of exactly what he eats throughout the week and at what times, which again is good because you can follow this plan yourself and maybe change a few things depending on your tastes.

The final section is 'Sly Moves In Action' and we get to see what Stallone does for three days of his life, kind of like a diary so we can see what he does and how he fits in his training and eating plan. There is also a nice bit about stress control so if you do get stressed easily this may well help a little.

Overall, 'Sly Moves' really is just a fantastic book not only because its every fans dream, but because even if you are not a fan this book will still help you improve your life. This book isn't about Stallone's life, body building, eating well, dieting etc, its all of these and much more all rolled into one. If you are a fan of Sylvester Stallone (if you don't already have a copy), or you want a good book on how to eat properly, build muscles and just generally look after your body and live your life better, then this book is certainly for you. Rock on Stallone!"

"I've been a BIG fan of Sly Stallone, and have his dvd's. Infact i credit Sly (well Rambo actually) with inspiring me to take up bodybuilding when i was 16. This is the book i've always dreamed of, and at last after many years of waiting it's here.
In short this is a fantastic book, which when read actually feels and sounds like it has been written by Sly himself (if you've ever heard him interviewed recently) and that Sly is talking to you. This is not just some ghost written cash in, it genuinely feels authentic.
Sly has dedicated most of his life to working out (and it shows. the man is 58 and looks amazing), and the knowledge he has gained, with regards to diet, nutrition, exercises etc is amazing. What's more credible as well is that Sly has his own supplement brand called Instone (which i use), and yet this book does not hype, advertise or go out of its way to sell this brand to you (which if it were just a cash in, it would do).

This book covers every base (and includes women's training as well), and also provides a nice bio into Sly's life, which although not full biography book length, certainly isn't added as a page filler to beef the book up. The book also has added authenticity as well by showing Sly perform the excercises, and with his tips etc.

I would reccomend this to any beginner and certainly any Sly fan. The routines cover everything from beginner to Hardcore (and as an experienced Bodybuilder they are good routines), and whilst there are other books on the market and to an experienced lifter this doesn't add anything new, it is well written, easy to follow and you can tell Sly has taken pride in this.

In short Buy it!!!!!!!!!"
