ABOUT THE BOOK
"As a teacher and finishing a Masters Degree in Autism this book has been from the very beginning an essencial tool for my studies and my job. It is clear, easy to read but also very scientific. If you are a parent, a student, a teacher or just interested in Autism this book should be your Bible!"

"This motivating publication addresses the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders with Severe Learning Difficulties that has been neglected while the more recent focus on Asperger's Syndrome.
Initial impression of the book is that it is mainly focused on children rather than adults. While reading the book it is easy to value the writer's opinion stressing the importance of understanding early life. She illustrates that such children will begin to neglect vital communication and interaction at very early age and how the implications of this can become tenfold at an alarming rate. The latter part of the book does explore the transition to adulthood. I feel that the book would be useful to professional and carers working with either age group.
During the book she refers to several characters to illustrate the point. While reading about these characters it is easy to relate them to clients that one has known in the past, it is these sketches that make this book interesting creating the readers confidence to relate this information to their workplace.
The book is well laid out and has clearly defined areas for the chapters; the writer intends its use by parents and professionals. Myself, both being a nurse and a tutor for people with severe learning difficulties have found the book an excellent learning and teaching aid. It has further helped me to understand the actual vast dissimilarity and insight into their world and its function, and how that I can optimise training programmes to meet their needs."
