ABOUT THE BOOK
"I bought this for my curious 9 year old daughter as a book for us to read together in conjuction with the excellent "Let's talk about where babies come from". These were the first books I'd bought on the subject of puberty and sex education; before that we'd only looked at Clare Rayner's "The Body Book" (perfect for younger children). "Girls Only!" is perfect for introducing the subject of periods in a modern, chatty and matter of fact way. The illustrations and graphics are funky and appealing and the front cover instantly attracted my daughter's attention. She picked it up, asked what it was, and I said that I'd bought her a new, special book about growing up. She asked if we could read it together, which was great, but having read the book first I'd have been just as comfortable letting her read it alone if that's what she'd wanted.
I'd say the way the book is written is perfect for girls of 9 and upwards. I love the way it doesn't assume that every girl reading the book has a mum to chat to about periods and it even gives tips on how to raise the subject of periods if you live with your dad. It's not patronising and manages to draw the reader in as if the book is a kind and fun friend or relative.
As well as periods, the book covers hygiene, boys, spots, myths about periods, and a useful glossary of medical terms and how to pronounce them. All in all it's exactly what I'd hoped for and I would recommend it wholeheartedly."

"I bought this for my daughter (9)a while ago when she started asking questions. Although happy to discuss the subject with her, she is an avid reader so I thought a book she could refer to would be a good thing for her to have too.
It is perfect for girls!
She is now 10 & this book is well-thumbed and still comes out constantly. She is confident with what it has taught her & as some of her friends have it too, they all discuss the topic together. I'm still recommending it to friend as their daughters grow.
Excellent!"

"This book really tackles the subject well.
My daughter's school started covering basic sex education, puberty & reproduction in year 5 in PHSE and my daughter felt that everyone at school knew all about this stuff except her.
So in addition to talking to her we got her this book to read when she was 10 and it was just right. She keeps it under her pillow in bed and frequently refers to it. It speaks the reader just like a reponsible big sister! "

"When I was told during parents evening that the topic on the school play ground was sex, periods boys etc i was totally mortified, my daughter is only nine. I decided there and then that I had to do something, thinking back to when i was around 11 and all the horror stories that kids tell each other about such things i was determined to find a book that my daughter could read by herself or with me about periods and puberty. I was adamant that i didn't want her knowing the whole kaboosh at that age so having looked around i purchased this book. Amazing it gives them all they need to know about periods, puberty, moods, friendship and family reactions in a fun and child friendly manner, and most importantly what to do when it happens to them, who they can go to etc. I am so glad that I bought this book and would recommend it to all mums who feel like i did and wanted their child to have only the knowledge suitable for their age. A ++++ to the author."

"When I discovered one of my daughter's friends had started, I thought 'I'll have to get sorted'. I tried my GP's surgery, the health visitor, the family planning clinic to mention but a few and all the literature was for teenagers. My daughter is nine. Then I stumbled upon this book. It is fantastic. I read it myself before passing it on to my daughter. This really is super in that the language is at their level and it helps promote a healthy mental attitude towards puberty and all the stuff that comes with it. I have recommended it to many other mums, who totally agree. SO, TO ALL MUMS WITH GROWING DAUGHTERS ... THIS IS A MUST HAVE!!"
