Freud and Jung on Religion

"I had studied both Jung's and Freud's ideas about religion whilst I was at university and just wish that I'd had this book to help me through.

As the blurb says, you really don't need any previous knowledge of either thinkers work to understand what's in this book, as the author takes you through the basics of each of their ideas in a both concise and easily understandable way without being patronising.

After this introduction (and a short biography) the author shows how both Freud and Jung applied their ideas to religion. Again this is done concisley, but with enough depth, analysis and comparison between the two thinkers ideas to be satisfying and informative. For each thinker there then follows a section on the critiques of each thinkers work on the psychology of religion.

All in all this books does exactly what it sets out to; give you an informed and intelligent introuction to Freud's and Jung's psychology of religion. However, it could also be recommended as a general introduction to each thinker's psychology in general. Couple this with the authors interesting and lively style of writing and you have an excellent book that will prove invaluable if are studying these thinkers in respect to religion, or you want an excellent introduction to their respective psychologies of religion.
