"This is an excellent nonthreatening information source for us all! I recommend this for every family and their friends. The pictures are of ticks and rashes - and are not in the least scary. The book is clear and calm in its description of signs and symptoms of tick-borne diseases. The bibliography and resources are excellent! As a healthcare professional, I know the author has taken great care in writing this book."

"Everything You Need to Know About Lyme Disease, by Karen Vanderhoof-Forschner, is by far the best book written on the subject, especially for people lacking an extensive medical terminology vocabulary. The book is also a good starting point for the curious clinician wishing to find acurate information on Lyme disease. Karen Vanderhoof-Forschner has painted a very clear, conscise picture of what Lyme disease and its manifestations are. The book includes a very well referenced timeline of the disease starting in Europe in 1883. After reading this book, the reader will realize that recognition and discovery are two very different words and, no matter how many credentials a doctor may have, he can easily miss this diagnosis if he does not have the facts about Lyme disease. A doctor is only as good as the information he has. I feel the book gives the reader, doctor or patient, a very good acccount of Lyme disease and its complications. Ms. Vanderhoof-Forschner has gone the extra mile and provided the reader with a wealth of references . I only wish I could give the book six stars on a five star system. I would like to thank Ms. Vanderhoof-Forschner for writing this book . The information it contains is invaluable."

"The author's son died in the 1980's of Lyme disease, and in the book are very scary pictures of what can happen to victims of the disease. However, much has changed in the last ten years in the treatment of the disease, and the author's own personal tragedy has turned into what appears to be a mis-timed vendetta against the medical community.
I write this not because I am a member of the medical community (I'm not), but because a friend of mine was just diagnosed with the disease and I bought the book in the hope that it would be a good resource for her. What I found is a book which should have been titled "Everything that Can Go Wrong If You Have Lyme Disease". From scary pictures to extensive statements of the potential things that can go wrong if you have Lyme disease (without any sort of reassuring and truthful comments like "but it is rare for symptoms to persist after antibiotic treatment"), it is an alarmist book. I certainly did not show it to my friend.
One example of very deceptive 'scholarship' is when the author states that more than one of every 93 people in New Jersey that she knows has Lyme disease, and therefore the statistic which reports that only one in 93 have the disease is an underestimate. That type of comment has no place in a book which hopes to have scientific merit."
