ABOUT THE BOOK
"As a Counselling Psychology trainee working in primary care and with alcohol and drug users using CBT I find this manual indispensible.
For the complete novice, its initial chapters present a simple and concise guide to the theory and practice of cognitive behavioural therapy that is easy to understand and put into practice with clients.
Further chapters present a step-by-step 'how to' guide to the treatment of a variety of anxiety disorders including panic attacks, OCD, social anxiety and generalised anxiety. Each covers the evidence base, conceptualisation and treatment of a particular disorder, offering an outline treatment plan and a variety of cognitive tools and behavioural experiments to try.
I have found the book much more helpful than the more generalised, starry-eyed manual by Judith Beck as it provides a clear structure for working with clients with a particular diagnosis. At my stage of training it's just what I need to keep my own anxiety levels in check, although even at ten quid off the RRP it didn't do much for my bank balance ..."

"I found this book to be informative and practical to use. Equal depth, research and evidencece-based treatment techniques are clearly highlighted for each disorder inclusive of OCD and panic disorder.
Additionally the book offers a range of models and treatment techniques which can easily be applied to clinical practice or used solely as a learning resource."

"This is an excellent manual and guide for anyone interested in Cognitive Therapy. It discusses in depth the the theory and models of anxiety yet manages to be an 'easy' read. This book is indispensable to anyone who is working in the field whether they are trainees or experienced therapists. I refer to it constantly and have never found anything to be missing! It methodically covers assessment and clinical measures, the basic techniques of cognitive therapy, then goes on to discuss in great detail the major disorders that can be treated using CT."

"This book by Adrian Wells is a comprehensive and informative overview on the authors thinking about a number of anxiety disorders and their treatment. Few researchers are as much in touch with their patients and at the same time are able to outline the essence of the problems of these patients in such an understandable and yet precise fashion. I highly recommend this book to all psychotherapists and especially to cognitive-behavioral therapists that treat patients with anxiety disorders. I feel that after reading this book, I have understood a great deal more about anxiety disorders, my patients and how to treat them than i had before (that is after about 4 years of practise and an equal amout of time of research and study of these disorders)."
