ABOUT THE BOOK
"A fascinating and informative book and one which is well worth reading. Indeed it should be required reading for all politicians as it gives hundreds of examples of the ways (both aesthetic and medical) in which the natural world can help mankind and the inestimable losses we are facing by our destructive activities.
It is, in general well written, the only criticism I have to make is the fact that the author, while quite happy to search far and wide for 'cures' does not seem to consider them important if they don't help Americans!
It gets rather tiresome to be continually told that 5 million Americans suffer from this and 50,000 die from that. He seems oblivious to the fact that world wide figures probably run into hundreds of millions.
Neither am I really interested in reading that the cost to the American economy of some particular disease is $500 million a year, more than the entire GDP of many 'third-world' countries (from which most of the remedies seem to originate).
Overall though a very enjoyable book and one which I can recommend."
