ABOUT THE BOOK

USER REVIEWS
"As a student midwife I am constantly looking for books about my career choice. Although this is from an American midwife, a country which has a different health care system it is still a wonderful read. Midwifery is all about caring for women and their families at a very important and special time in their lives, which is certainly the main focus of the book.
Highly recommended "

"Wow ... What a fab read ... I came across this boock after being acepted to start training as a Midwife but found It would have been really useful before the interview process...
Although being a bit dated and about the trails and tribulations of Midwifery in the US it is a fantastic heart warming book which gets back to basics of pergnancy and birth.
The basic and honest style in which it is written is really lovely. I would really recomend it . "

"I have just read this book and thouroughly enjoyed it, I just couldn't put it down! It's the story of a woman who began off as a helping nurse in the hospital and gradually began to realise that her real future and career was in home-birth. It contains riveting stories of many different women in labour and giving birth as well as other stories involved in midwifery and a midwifes life. This book can be enjoyed by expecting mothers, midwifes or anyone who is interested in this amazing subject. I definetly reccomend it!"

"This book was great for reading a bit of and putting back down as each chapter was a mini story in itself.
Anyone who has children, wants children or has an interest in the miracle that is childbirth will love this story of laughter and tears."

"Baby Catcher by Peggie Vincent was the first book I read since deciding to pursue midwifery as a career. It is a biography of an American Independant Midwife who went against the grain of American child birth culture and persued natural, drug free births with as little medical intervention as was necessary, set in the 1970's. It was lovely, for the first time I understood why women would want to resist pain relief during labour (a previously alien concept to me!). The stories about the women and the births were slightly rose tinted I felt, but that added to the charm of the book but I didn't expect the twist the book had towards the end, albeit a very sad and unexpected end- The sorrow of the ending made me think for days! I would recommend it to anyone! In fact I did manage to convince a pregnant colleague to buy it, who was initially not in the slightest bit bothered, and now raves about it!"
