ABOUT THE BOOK
A practical guide for women to accelerate and ease recovery from breast cancer surgery and other breast-related surgeries offers exercises to strengthen the body and relieve pain, uses real women's stories as examples, and addresses emotional issues involved. Original. IP.
"Having had a mastectomy with full axilla clearout and delayed reconstruction by free TRAM and still have a tightness under my arm, I was interested to see what the book suggested.
I had had limited movement after my mast and had extensive physio to regain range and strength prior to radiotherapy.
The book uses case studies to describe the surgery (in brief) and the effect on the body (i.e shortening and drying up of lymph vessels leading to a feeling of tightness or pain).
It also discusses some of the effects of such as radiotherpay and devotes a chapter to avoiding lymphoedema. Exercises are described and drawings included.
I think the book could be very useful for someone starting to undergo breast surgery so they know what to expect and how best to help themselves as quickly as possible."
