ABOUT THE BOOK
"I got two books as an expectant father, this was one of them. The one was Fatherhood: The Truth
Out of the two I much preferred the latter. Lad to Dad is too specific (it centres too much around his experience),the author always sounds a bit too overwhelmed and the book seems to have been vetted by his partner as it's far too soft. It also stops as soon as the birth has taken place and gives no insight into being a dad, just the journey. Fatherhood on the other hand had me creasing with laughter and not wanting to share any of it with my wife! I wouldn;t class myself as a lad but 'lad to dad' was boring and the jokes were very dull compared with fatherhood.

"Well written and funny; although I would describe this as gentle humour rather than fall about hysterical. Written by a bloke specifically for blokes; as a dad to be myself I thoroughly enjoyed the read, but wife did not so much. That's not necessarily a bad point; but I think my wife was hoping to gain much more of a man's perspective on pregnancy than was actually delivered.
I found (or rather as I move through the pregnancy term, I am finding) that Giles skips along a bit to quickly in places, only very lightly touching on some aspects of the pregnancy and missing others completely, almost as if the book was rushed. But this in turn does make it an easy read.
Recommended if you are a dad to be and want a light, easy read about the experience of one man during the nine months without going into too much detail.

"My wife is expecting our first baby and someone kindly gave me this book for Xmas. It made me laugh and reassured me at the same time. Look, to be honest, I am petrified about becoming a dad for the first time. I hadn't a clue what to expect and this book did ease a lot of my fears. It's no picnic going through this stuff for the very first time - and my wife says we are going to have lots of babies.....I hope there is a follow up - what to expect during the first year, that sort of thing because, to put it bluntly, I'm a bit s**t scared of that part of the process as well. Good book. Worth a read even if you aren't a lad about to become a dad. Made me laugh and it's well written - and I loved the bomb (you'll have to read it to understand...)"

"This book had me rolling on the floor with laughter in parts. Being a mum already I totally empathised with the author and his wife throughout his account. The help notes are just what couples may need to cope with the problems encountered in pregnancy.
Both funny and informative - I cannot recommend this highly enough."

"This book is a fabulous "survival guide" if you know of any male who has just found out that he is about to be a father. From a woman's point of view, it is a fantastic insite into just how your man may be feeling about the pregnancy and the emotional turmoil he may be facing. A witty account of an expectant father's feelings throughout his wife's pregnancy which will have you laughing as well as some important information about help available to you. An absolute must for any couple you know who are expecting a child."
