ABOUT THE BOOK
"I am one of those women who wanted healthy long hair. I really do agree with most of what Cathy said in her book but to be frank it did not do anything for me. The creme moisturiser makes my hair ashy and dry-looking, it totally removes all the shine in my hair. The conditioner made my hair so hard and brittle.
When Cathy started her research (before she introduced her own products) she was using other hair products, right? So why does she claim that her hair products are the best. If her products are so good, then she should not be so afraid of competition. Why cant she tell her customers other good moisturizers and conditioners out there and they will decide for themselves. A good product will always stand out no matter.
The other thing is there are also other black women who have nice looking long hair, but they haven't used her products. This means they have used other hair products and they worked. What I am saying is there could be many other good producs out there that work. But identifying them is the problem.
For whoever wants to try these products, they can do so. The book is good I agree, but I will not be making another order for her products."

"Cathy Howes writes an informative book on haircare for the kinky and curly haired among us. She includes chapters on what types of shampoo, conditioner and moisturizer to use as well as recommened diet for healthy hair growth. She includes chapters on why heat, hair grease and brushes are our enemy.
It is a must for serious healthy hair growers. However, remember that your hair can only grow as long as is GENETICALLY possible and no longer so her book is great for healthy hair growth. Her book has helped me to grow my natural thick type 4a afro hair past my shoulders which was a problem before. No more heat, hair brushes or chemicals for me.
She is honest about the damage that relaxers cause no matter what the box may say but shows you how to treat your newley straightened damaged hair."

"I didn't really find the book helpful in achieving length. I feel that the best way to treat damaged hair is to cut it off.
I used her recommended products and didn't like them at all. Especially the 'Dew'. It wasn't really as moisturizing as it should have been.
As for the conditioner, it left my hair really dry and brittle. Even though it was moisturized afterwards. She also recommends using heat twice a week with a curling/flat iron. I don't think it's such a good idea. There is only one small black and white picture in the book and she doesn't recommend any styles or alternative products. For example: She'll tell that there are many good moisturizers out there, but she won't tell you which ones are good. Apart from the 'Dew' that she sells on the internet for a high price. I have been carrying her book up and down and following her methods for about two years now, with bad results.
This book won't work for everyone, especially if you have coarse thick type 4a hair like mine."
