ABOUT THE BOOK
"This diet can enable Crohn's sufferers to lead a normal life without medication. The science behind the diet is logical and explained clearly. The recipes are basic but the book details web sites where more information and delicious recipes can be found. I bought this book when my son was diagnosed and he has been well, without medication, for over six months. "

"I followed this diet to the letter. I lost loads of weight, and my bloods were all over the place and as a result I was facing a trip to the hospital. Instead I went to a new consultant who prescribed enemas and a improved drug, that coupled with sensible veg rich diet I am miles better. This diet made me very very ill, and It is a full time job trying to cook all the largely inedible recipies (many with staple ingriedients unavailable in Britain!)If you try it keep an eye on yourself even though you may be desperate, I was lucky.."

"
This popular book, written by a biochemist and cell biologist, got its start when Gottschall's daughter was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease at a young age. She developed the "Specific Carbohydrate Diet," a strict grain-free, lactose-free, and sucrose-free regimen, as an alternative to medication and surgery. The diet is intended to starve anaerobic bacteria in the intestinal tract, similar to the use of antibiotics for Crohn's. No clinical trials have been conducted on its effectiveness for IBD as far as I know, but if you are looking for alternative approaches you might try this dietary approach. Visit the IBD Book Store for other reviews on books related to Crohn's Disease, ulcerative colitis, and IBS. As for other books for proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle I strongly recommend Can We Live 150 "

"The SCD Diet is a winner and really has helped me clear up my problems and also seems to have worked across the board for a whole spectrum of other peoples issues.
The science section is VERY interesting and is easy for anybody to understand and the recipes are brilliant.
HOWEVER the book fails to be brilliant in two ways:
1, There is no specific list of foods that can and can't be eaten! Crazy and unforgivable considering the strict nature of the diet and the money parted with for the book...
2. At the most important point in the book, the moment when you are ready to introduce the diet and look to the book for direction and clarity, the instructions become vague and non-specific.
It is a shame because I almost turned my back on the book after a few un-successful starts at the diet."

"Just to confirm the other reviews. This book really breaks the vicious circle of feeling bad!
After 7 years of intestinal troubles, surgery, multiple diets and medication I finally found the answer thanks to this book!
Now I realise how I made myself ill and how to put myself back in control.
After a few days following the diet I noticed improvements. The hardest thing is to stick to the diet; the slightest misstep is punished. So to all Gotschalk dieters; Good Luck!"
