ABOUT THE BOOK
"In my work as a counsellor I work within a person centred model of counselling. I always found psychodynamic theory difficult to comprehend and did not have the confidence to step out. 'From Counselling Skills to Counsellor' has helped me explore my work and has given more depth to the words, 'how can I help'? Reading this book has given me a new understanding of what the client is saying and in this new 'hearing' I can be more insightful in my work with clients. Juliet's writing lifts the veil of such things as transference and counter transference, and projective identification making it understandable in clear straightforward examples, with relevant dovetailing theory, throughout the book.
I think this book will be invaluable to people who use counselling skills, in caring professions, and who want to know more. I have enjoyed the easy understandable syle of writing which has made psychodynamic thinking interesting and informative. The condensed history of psychodynamic therapists, especially Freud and Klein, and step by step case studies, have illuminated the psychodynamic approach for me. I wish I had had access to this book earlier. It has left me wanting to know more and I look forward to more books from Juliet in the future."
