Trauma and Psychosis

"For too long, the role of traumatic life events have been disregarded (or else treated as peripheral phenomena) in the study and treatment of psychosis. This book places trauma right at the heart of mental health problems and asks precisely what exactly its relationship is to the experiences that we label psychosis. In this respect, it transcends the boundaries of the medical model and looks at how we may better locate our understanding of psychosis in a psychological, or psycho-social, framework. It is the first of its kind to integrate key research and theory in the area. The editors have done an excellent job in collating writings from international experts and proponents of this field of enquiry. Its emphasis on the application of theory to clinical treatment could be of huge benefit to a wide range of mental health professionals working with this client group. This is a bold piece of work and one that will hopefully inspire many likeminded professionals to contribute to a developing field that is, unfortunately, still afforded too little attention.
