ABOUT THE BOOK
"A wide cross section of ages and ethnic types used as models but unfortunately there is some very heavy-handed photoshop retouching in the 'after' pictures. Also the artist is very keen on contouring which is only really useful for softbox photography and not everyday makeup.
A very limited range of colours and shading techniques used.
USeful if you are going to have your portrait taken and will be doing your own makeup. Or if you are a fashion model who also does her own makeup."

"A sizeable part of this book is made up of remarkable before and after pictures of women of all ages and all races. It is reassuring that they don't all look like models too. He also writes about the importance of good skincare and then goes into the basic application of all aspects of makeup.
I found this book to be very up-to-date in recommending suitable colours for every skintone and ethnicity. Robert Jones describes his 'look' as 'glam girl next door' and it really comes across in the methods and colours he uses. If you are into 'way-out' looks you will probably find this boring as he is more concerned with emphasising one's features in a natural way, almost like Bobbi Brown's approach.
Here are my (few) critisicms. The 'after' photograps look very photoshopped and please correct me if I'm wrong Robert! He also seems to be a big advocate of contouring but I can't see how that works outside of photography. It is also geared towards only one fully made up look and doesn't give much guidance for seasonal variation or make up for low-key events.
All in all though it is definitely worth looking at especially for brides and even the mother of the bride!"
