USER REVIEWS
"This book is probably the first book of its kind to deal with perfumes being used in a form other than a spray or 'touch'. Annette Green of, course is a very active lady in perfumes and runs a New York office dealing with the many aspects of perfumes in the modern world. She has contributed an immense amount of work into perfumery. The book is principally about the method us using perfumes as they used to be dispensed with a long time ago but now this method is resurfacing. Elizabeth I of England was noted for her small metal locket on a chain which was filled with musk and other aromatics such as rose otto and resins. This 'pomander' was characteristic of the age and bacame almost standard wear for the court. Perfumes in those day user to be put onto clothes and a favourite one was russian leather which was leather impregnated with aromatic. The aromatic jewellry history of the book shows how perfume materials could be contained in a capsule of some kind so that the perfume would be on the wearer's body but could be changed. It also had the advantage that it sould be changed at will. The beauty side was that it was also an adornment ranking with other jewels which could be worn. Many countries still use this method, principally those countries in the tropical regions where an alcohol based perfume is quickly lost and the original ingredients whether oils or resins will keep much longer because they are concentrated. Indonesia has special devices or small jewel boxes which are worn and so does North Africa. The book is a delight to the eye and highly recommended."
