ABOUT THE BOOK
Turning forty, fifty, or sixty is not about getting older, it's about becoming ageless . . .
Renowned style expert and fashion consultant Christine Schwab sees aging as an opportunity to revitalize your style and enliven your attitude. In her frank, opinionated, and provocative style, she writes the book that defies many of the fashion and beauty industry philosophies.
Now more than ever, women have the ability to look and feel fresh, chic, and fabulous at any age, simply by understanding age maintenance. Schwab is adamant that with all this new ageless information and technology, it is imperative to be informed about what works and what does not..
In this honest and empowering book, she offers the first open-minded approach to style, beauty, health, and well-being that will help every forty-plus woman achieve a classic look while maintaining her edge and personality.
A personal stylist and support group within a book, The Grown-Up Girl's Guide to Style addresses every aspect of aging, from hair and makeup to sex and family life. Straightforward and candid, Schwab even embraces once taboo subjects, offering the lowdown from leading doctors and surgeons on injectable skin treatments, cosmetic surgery and dentistry, and hormone replace-ment therapy. Accompanying her eye-opening advice are dozens of fun, revealing photographs—including celebrity profiles, woman-on-the-street snapshots, stunning professional photography, and even personal photographs of Schwab herself—that demonstrate style disasters (sleeveless tops, head-to-toe denim, and more), and dazzling triumphs.
The Grown-Up Girl's Guide to Style holds the ultimate insider's secrets to a beautiful, sexy, and healthy life after forty. An essential book for the modern "grown-up girl," it is sure to dramatically rejuvenate the already-stylish, the aspiring-to-be-stylish, and the simply style-challenged woman in her prime.
"I kept trying clothes I thought were cute and fashionable, butlooking at myself in the mirror, they were so WRONG. This book helped me understand why, and find my happy style place. I am not forty quite yet, but things are a changing. I am full of fresh ideas and empowered with new advice so I can look in the mirror and like what I see!
I especially like this book because the author does not believe in skimpy, skin-showing fashions. What a relief. I am happy with her advice against sleeveless, short hemlines, cleavage... and things that are too tight. Hooray for modesty!

"This was a mixed bag.
On one hand, there were photos of great outfits that gave me great hope as I flipped through the book.
The text, however, was all about rules that are ridicoulous. Such as women whose arms aren't perfectly toned should never wear short sleeve or sleeveless shirts. Even in the summer. This woman has clearly never been to Michigan in the summer when it's 90 degrees and 100% humidity. A person with long sleeves would look ridiculously out of place unless she were working in a bank or something. Even then, I'm pretty sure they wear sleeveless shells beneath their jackets.
Fashion books that tell me that unless I fit the ideal of young and taut and size 2 are books I will not take seriously.

"well my upper arms are flapping in the breeze, for all to see. Which is a style rule I'm consciously breaking.
BUT IT is SURE nice to KNOW those rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Knowing them, then consciously breaking them doesn't leave me feeling bad about myself, it leaves me feeling in power.
No not empowered! Everyone under the sun is busy being empowered by something or other.
This book gives me the power to know the best ways to present myself and then I can follow that or not as I see fit.
I'm over 50. I don't care how people see me, but I do care how I present myself. It's a fine point but a lot of over 50's know what I mean.
This book is a help not a hindrance.
For self esteem bolstering and empowerment, look elsewhere. For finding so0me fashion ground rules (then breaking them judiciously) this book is a good road map."

"I loved the book. I really used the information provided to update my look. She has a classic elegant style, which was what I was after. It really inspired me and I have implemented many of her suggestions. I give it two thumbs up."

"I see that a lot of reviewers had problems with this book because the author is so brutally blunt. She's also correct. Once you are over 40 NOBODY wants to see your jelly roll stomach or your crepey flesh spilling from your white teeny tiny shorts.None of us wants to be that silly woman who prances around the PTA meeting dressed exactly like her young daughter;do we? If you follow the advice of this book that will never happen to you.
What the author is trying to get across is style doesn't die just becuase you're over 25. In fact, you can look a lot classier and even beautiful at 40 than you did at 20 IF you know the tricks of dressing to your advantage. "
