ABOUT THE BOOK
"My last deployment in the Marine Corps, my buddies and I came across a copy of this book. Needless to say, we were motivated and had all the time in the world to workout. All I can say is WOW! I started out on day 1 at 220lbs and was pretty strong. Your average strength, 225 on the bench, 400lbs on the squat. By the end of my deployment, I wieghed 255 lean with a 340lb bench for 1 time. I had never been in better shape. The book was broke down barny style (even for a Marine) and was very easy to follow along. I highly recomend this book to anyone wanting a better body. Bob- your the man, thanks for everything. SGT Horowitz 1st Mar Div"

"OK, here's the thing......this workout program works great! 90 mins per workout (including the 30mins cardio)... provided one doesn't doddle with 2-5min breaks between each set! Do the set, stretch, on to the next set! Great results. Lean, hard, and symetrical.
I can't figure out why previous reviewers say it takes so long! Get in a zone & just go!
This is not a "bulk-up" plan for those who are looking for huge mass gains. This is a sculpting plan.
Bob knows his stuff."

"BLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Dang alarm clock! What time is it? Holy crap! It's 3:00AM? What am I doing up at 3AM? Oh, yeah...I'm going to go workout.
And so the daily ritual goes. I get up before my wife gets up, before my dog gets up, before the sun gets up and I slog down a protein shake and pop a hardboiled egg and I'm in the gym...or should I say, the Temple of Physical Transformation by 3:30AM. I don't do this because I like to tell other people that they are lazy and undisciplined...I don't do this because I'm crazy...well, that's certainly debateable...I do this because I am in my early 40s...turned 41 last March...and I like being in shape. I take that back, I LOVE being in GREAT SHAPE!
I love this book because Bob Paris has written a book that takes all the guess work out of training. I go into the gym...I mean, the temple all the time and I see people going through their routines like they're on auto-pilot. I see guys straining under huge amounts of weights with their training partner doing 90% of the work. I see people wasting time instead of using that time to create and experience INCREDIBLE results...
The routines in this book can last up to 2-2 1/2 hours but you can "tweak" the routines here and there and still have a great and productive session and get out in under 90 minutes. You don't have to go every day, you can go every other day and STILL make progress. You see, this book is a GUIDE it's not the gospel. In fact, now that I'm in my 40s, I do require more time off so I take it and I don't feel guilty or bad. I don't eat as much so I don't try and cram my body full of food. I've become really good at listening to my soul about what I need to do and how I need to go about it. So before I even touch a weight, I meditate. I think about what I want to do while I'm there. I think about what my desired outcome is; i.e what do I want my physique to look like as a result of my training and I go into my workout with enthusiastic purpose and I meet and exceed my goals like magic. Not only because I have enthusiasm, I have direction and this book is a map, but only you can decide the direction you want to go in.
I had surgery in December and was told that I probably wouldn't be able to train for about eight months. I told myself three, tops and although I am not at the "peak" of where I was before my surgery, I still have very productive workouts because the bottom line is, I have fun!
Yeah, I may be crazy setting my alarm at 3AM to workout, but I'm not there because a gun is pointed at my pointy head, I'm there because I have yet another opportunity to be who I can be and it's a funny thing, once you get comfortable in your own skin, you realize you are more than skin, bone, and muscle...you are Spirit and through the Spirit of Love and Enthusiasm, anything is possible.
Peace and Blessings..."

"Anyone that doesn't like this book is too lazy to follow the routines and nutrition advice. I have personally used this program for two years. I have guided several people through the ten week program. Those that will stick with it have results. DRAMATIC RESULTS!!. It is very hard to find the time, but is well worth it. Overtraining? No.
Too bad this book is dicontinued. I recommend it all the time."

"I bought this book based on all the fantastic reviews. (I read them all.) Ones that said: BEST WORK OUT BOOK I'VE EVER OWNED, Very Realistic, and The perfect training program
Unfortunately I have to go along with the couple that said: Well intentioned but flawed in terms of real life and, Somewhat Unrealistic.
In the two plus years that I have been going to the gym, buying and reading workout books, and gathering all the information I can on bodybuilding, I have learned a couple things. 1) There is no perfect workout. 2) Every person is different and will make better gains on some workouts than other workout routines.
So there is a place for Bob Paris's workout routines and I am using one of them now. But as mentioned already, they are very long and will quickly lead to over training, especially for beginners. Also, they do not include much variation, i.e., the set and rep schemes are all pretty similar. The SAID principle (Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demands) is scientifically established and proves that variation in workout routines are required if you want to continue to make gains. (Unless you are one of the few who are genetically gifted.)
The part where he describes feeling the muscles is a good approach but I feel he did not expound on it as well as he could have. Some illustrations would have been nice.
The nutrition part is okay but since the book was published much more is known about nutrition and hormones and exercising than was know then, so there is better information for those who are serious.
As the one and only workout book, I give it 1 star. As an additional workout book, I give it 3 stars."
