ABOUT THE BOOK
From the worlds leading urologist and author of The Prostate comes the ultimate book on surviving prostate cancernow updated to include the most recent advancements. This year, an estimated 31,500 American men will die of prostate cancer, and more than 198,000 will be diagnosed with the disease. But with early diagnosis and better treatments, the medical establishment has made progress towards defeating this devastating illness. This invaluable guide covers every aspect of prostate cancer, from potential causes to diagnosis, treatments, and innovative means of controlling advanced stages of cancer. It also addresses impotence and incontinence after surgery, tells men what to look for in a surgeon, and features a section on alternative medicine. With an extensive glossary, index, and listing of where to get help, this comprehensive book is the definitive guide on prostate cancer.
"I bought two books from the local bookstore, this one was the best. It explained all of the technical information that was given to me as part of my biopsy results (Gleason scores, stages, all of the various tables, survivability stats ...). I got more out of it than the time that I spent with my urologist. Plenty of diagrams of the radical surgery I am looking at. Not much on Davinci system which seems to be the current rage. Anyway I found this book to be useful and worth the money.

"I have read five books on prostate cancer. This is the best of them. However, it is somewhat biased in favor of open surgery (as opposed to laparoscopic, and robotically assisted laparoscopic surgery). Also, some of his data are outdated, e.g., on p. 317 he quotes from a Mayo Clinic study without mentioning that the study was based on 1991-1993, i.e., pre-PSA-era, data, when men were diagnosed with more advanced disease than they are today. However, these are minor flaws in an otherwise excellent book."

"I FOUND DR. WALSH'S GUIDE TO SURVING PROSTATE CANCER VERY INFORMATIVE.
THE ONLY NEGATIVE COMMENT I WOULD MAKE IS : THAT THE BOOK WAS A 2001 EDITION, WHICH IS QUITE OLD FOR MEDICAL INFORMATION."

"This book was recommended by our doctor, as my husband had been diagnosted with prostate cancer. We found it to be the best information on the subject. It gave us a comprehensive explaination of the procedures and results to be expected. It filled in questions even the doctors did not cover.
