ABOUT THE BOOK
A decade ago, Deepak Chopra, M.D., wrote Perfect Health, the first practical guide to harnessing the healing power of the mind, which became a national bestseller. The book described how breakthroughs in physics and medicine were underscoring the validity of a 5,000-year-old medical system from ancient India known as Ayurveda ("the knowledge of life span" in Sanskrit). Perfect Health went on to describe how to apply the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda to everyday life. In celebration of this classic work we have created this new edition, revised and updated to include the latest medical research.
Although we experience our bodies as solid, they are in fact more like fires that are constantly being consumed and renewed. We grow new stomach linings every five days, for instance. Our skin is new every five weeks. Each year, fully 98 percent of the total number of atoms in our bodies is replaced. Ayurveda gives us the tools to intervene at this quantum level, where we are being created anew each day. Ayurveda tells us that freedom from sickness depends on contacting our own awareness, bringing it into balance, and then extending that balance to the body.
Perfect Health provides a complete step-by-step program of mind body medicine tailored to individual needs. A quiz identifies the reader's mind body type: thin, restless Vata; enterprising, efficient Pitta; tranquil, steady Kapha; or any combination of these three. This body type becomes the basis for a specific Ayurvedic program of diet, stress reduction, neuromuscular integration, exercise, and daily routines. The result is a total plan, tailor-made for each individual, to reestablish the body's essential balance with nature; to strengthen the mind body connection; and to use the power of quantum healing to transcend the ordinary limitations of disease and aging--in short, for achieving Perfect Health.
"Hi,
I am enjoying reading this book. Eventhough I am not done with the book. I have a feeling that I need to read this atleast two time to get thru' the message. There is so much of information that it is hard to perceive everything at the first time."

"This is an excellent book that everybody that is concerned with their health should read. It is best to read *before* getting sick but it is also very valuable for those that want to remain healthy or are struggling with their health. "

"Since after the British invasion in around 18 th century, Indians have been introduced and were forced to follow the British system for everything. When they left India 60 years back, Indians got so adapted to the British systems that they continued following them. You could realise that if you analyse the current India. The Education system,Political system, Medicine , Lifestyle of people everything is no longer what India had been 260 years ago.
The only medicine that the people of Current India are familiar with is the English medicine.Having been born and brought up in India, I never visited an ayurveda practioner nor has taken an ayurvedic remedy for any ailment. Nowadays, because of the heavy globalisation, there have been a dramatic change in the current Indian lifestyle.
So, saying that Ayurveda has failed in its native country based on the current statistics is just ignorance.I am not trying to offend the person who commented here. I am talking about the ignorance of me and my fellow Indians who have been so foolish and blind to neglect the ancient Indian treasures which have been a result of hundreds of years of research and hard work of our ancient ancestors.
I also wanted to clarify something here.Even though most of the people in India don't go running to an Ayurveda practitioner for a remedy these days, our ancestors made sure that the medicine was incorporated in our daily routine and lifestyle. The spices and herbs we Indians use in our diet, our daily rituals, our festivals are great testimonials for the ancient wisdom. Scientists and Physicians all around the world just started realising that. Recently, American Scientists found out that Indians are less prone to Parkinsons and Alzeihmers diseases because of some particular herbs that they use in their regular diet.
I didn't read this or any other books written by Deepak Chopra.I am not trying to sell him or his books. He works against the important Indian philosophy that Medicine and Education should never be distributed for monetary or any other gains.
All I can say is that any literature on Ancient Indian wisdom cannot be complete or accurate. You also should realise that being written 5000 years ago in India, the knowledge obviously could not be exactly or literally applied in the present times considering the living and geographic conditions at the time it was written.

"Dr. Chopra has done it once again. As a great promoter of alternative medicine, he has done a great job in spreading that message in this book. He speaks of "quantum mechanical human body." He argues that "by treating the underlying quantum mechanical body itself, Ayurveda can bring about changes far beyond the reach of conventional medicine, confined as it is to the level of gross physiology. A good read for everyone!

"This book is undoubtedly the best account of the ayurvedic principles on healthy living. I am a GP myself and like to explore alternative disciplines of medicine too. This book definitiely honed my knowledge as regards the healthy functioning of mind and body. The language is easy, illustrations are good and the text is free of medical jargon or elaborate sanskrit terms. A treatise indeed for any health conscious person or health care professional."
