ABOUT THE BOOK

EDITORIAL REVIEW
Sink into a bathtub full of healing

One of life's most delicious pleasures is luxuriating in a bath filled with healing herbs and soothing scents. But a long soak in the tub can do much more than cleanse your body. It can have a healing effect on your mind, heart, and soul.

The recipes in Water Magic are designed to take away everything from an aching heart to aching muscles. The combination of herbs and water can relieve the common cold and ease uncommon amounts of stress. Drawing on the unique properties of aromatherapy, herbology, and homeopathic cures. Mary Muryn explains how a careful blend of ingredients can turn a simple bath into a magical healing experience.

The recipes, each accompanied by a meditative affirmation, include:

* Sleep Like a Baby Bath

* Executive Stress Bath

* Horrible Hangover Bath

* Youthful Glow Bath

* Mystical Sex Bath

and many more tantalizing, relaxing, and refreshing possibilities.

Let the healing powers of water bring vitality and balance to your mind and spirit.
USER REVIEWS
""Water Magic" is a splendid little book. Sometimes, less is more in life. The book's 31 recipes are a high-quality, focused offering of big solutions to ordinary life-challenges. Any book in the Amazon 30,000, 12 years after publication, has something to say.

I've read the high-praise for "Water Magic" in reader reviews, trying to add value with my own comments. Most of the reviews focus on the Healing Baths section, with recipes for minimizing aches, pains, handovers and exhaustion.

Of equal importance, is Muryn's focus on using baths for psychological and emotional healing. Muryn plays the therapist as often as the herbalist. She tells you not only what healing potions to put in the water, but what to do, what to think about, and how long to stay, once you're submerged in the warm, soothing water.

Muryn's approach is grounded in centuries-old Eastern, not Western medicine and strikes me as a good initial exploration for someone like me, who isn't well-versed in aromatherapy and homeopathy.

In a nod to everyday reality, Muryn reminds us to turn off the telephone and hang a Do Not Disturb sign on the door before bathing. I can already hear the chorus of American moms protesting, but Muryn's challenge is real for all of us, even Blackberry-addicted types like me.

Indeed, making time to bathe is a challenge in today's quick-shower world. A long-proponent of the stress-reducing benefits of a good soaking, I will investigate Muryn's recipes, studying their impact on my own wellbeing.

Hoping to visit Muryn's website, I couldn't find one, but did discover a lovely website www.watermagic.com. Muryn isn't featured, but the shopping site is headquartered in Westport (her home) and carries a wide selection of products mentioned in her book.

"Rated low because this is not accurately described. Lots of new age philosophy and history, not enough tips and recipes. "
