ABOUT THE BOOK
These 241 quick-reference flash cards cover all the standard orthopedic and neurological tests that all chiropractors, physical therapists, physicians, and nurses need to know. The card for each test includes confirmatory tests and the confirmatory tests also have cards. Consistent headings on each card include other names of the test; purpose; equipment; recommended patient position; traditional position; alternate patient position; performance; time considerations; normal response; abnormal response; possible pathologies; confirmatory tests; test replicated; useful combinations; and differential diagnosis. Each card also includes a photograph of how to perform the test.
"I own several books that illustrate orthopedic tests. Dr Miller has produced previous excellent texts that cover detailed instructions and illustrations of orthopedic tests. He helps the reader understand the clinical significance of the test, the systematic method of performing the tests, and the meaning of a positive or negative test.
Modern imaging has made old outdated orthopedic testing protocols obsolete. Dr. Miller distinguishes between the tests that are historical, yet still essential for passing national board exams, and those that still have useful clinical relevance. He further has developed modifications of some tests to help the clinical examiner become more proficient while still rendering a thorough evaluation.
I expected the material presented to be abbreviated since this is a set of flash cards. I was surprised to see very thorough coverage of the material involving orthopedic testing. It shouldn't have surprised me, though, knowing that Dr. Miller is typically exhaustive in his research and preparation of teaching materials.
The flash card format is an excellent way to learn the tests and present them in a variety of orders. A student can quiz himself/herself or a partner by rearranging the cards or focusing on a particular anatomical region or alphabetically, etc. A seasoned professional will also find the cards useful for reviews and updates.
One criticism is that the publisher could have used sturdier card stock. The box is also a tight fit and the user will likely end up discarding it and carry the cards in a folio from the office supply store.
Overall an exceptionally well written and illustrated product that is an outstanding value. Every student that will ever use orthopedic testing should consider this product. "

These unique flash cards provide general testing concepts, suggested flow through examination, confirmatory testing, and tests which can be combined to improve speed.
They are very well organized- each card has the identical format so they are easy to follow. The pictures match the written description of the test very well. The cards are all numbered for order and a table of contents is provided by region of examination for quick look-up.
At this price they are a steal and perfect for any physician or student performing orthopedic physical examination.
