ABOUT THE BOOK
At first glance this looks like your standard first-aid guide for parents, but an interesting surprise awaits inside. Yes, there's the standard (and, in this case well-written and easily accessible) information for dealing with emergencies, and yes, it's easy to reference. But this is the only book I've found that deals with what happens once the immediate crisis has passed. Written by a doctor, a naturopath, and a registered nurse, A Parent's Guide to Medical Emergencies includes homeopathic and herbal recommendations; for example, did you know that after an asthma attack, licorice tea can help calm and soothe the respiratory tract? An excellent section on ways to deal with trauma during--and after--a crisis.
"This is easily formatted to find answers quickly. I leave this next to our contact info on the kitchen counter for our babysitters. In case there is a problem, they don't have to try to find something on the bookshelf. It's really geared for the common emergency problems with children which can be hard to find QUICKLY in an overall medical guide to illnesses - who wants to read about strep throat when there's a black eye to treat? It's easier to read than the Red Cross books too. I'm giving to my sister as a shower gift - this type of item is often overlooked!"
