ABOUT THE BOOK
"Medical experience as well as clinical and pharmaceutical studies repeatedly show that medicinal plants can be successfully used to treat a wide range of conditions.
But how do you chose which plants to use? According to Dr. Gomez, over 1,000 plants are reputed to have medicinal effects, some of them merely anecdotal. Do you have the time to personally do all the necessary research? If not, rely on the research done by Dr. Gomez in writing this book.
Written by Dr. Reinaldo Sosa Gomez, a doctor with vast experience on the subject of medicinal plants, this book shows the medical properties of more than 150 of the world's most popular plants. It is written in clear and simple language.
Each plant has an illustration that is a work of art, and helps in the identification of each plant.
According to Dr. Gomez, "For as long as I can remember, I have been in contact with medicinal plants... Our Southern Hemisphere cultures have a long history of interest in botanical medicine. I remember that when I was growing up, our first preference, no matter what the illness, was always some medicinal plant or natural medicine, even before seeking a physician or going to the hospital.... During my year of social service in Sierra de los Huicholes in Jalisco, Mexico, I had the opportunity of being in contact with this type of medicine, and learning firsthand from the inhabitants of the area and use and value of some plants whose effectiveness I could authenticate... Later, when I returned home, I decided to investigate further the curative properties of plants. I realized that even though there was a great deal of public knowledge about them, not all of it was accurate, nor could it be proven scientifically. Over a period of time, I devoted myself to the task fo compiling information relating to some one thousand commonly used plants, both from local sources and other places. For about eight years I followed up on various plants, primarily on their cause and effect in clinical applications. I was careful to utilize the scientific evidence that appeared in medical literature published in many parts of the world... From more than one thousand plants I was able to establish the positive values of about two hundred, and to discover new effects for some of them. I was also surprised to learn that many of the plants produce results that are the same as or even better than those of pharmaceutical medicines... Placing this book into the hands of readers has been done with the assurance that the information appearing here has been tested and proven by my own patients in my personal clinical practice, and by other physicians, with great success. I believe without a doubt that you too will benefit from the treatments presented in this volume."
