"This book was completely useless for me. I followed to program for 6-weeks straight throughout, exactly as outlined, and saw no results. I stayed the same weight and my muscles got smaller. I emailed one of the authors and asked him a few questions to clarify some of the things in the book, and he never responded. Stay the hell away from this book. The advice sucks. "

"First, the good: The information is well laid out, and it provides a comprehensive overview of fitness, including weight training and cardiovascular exercise. Everything I've read seems to agree with popular knowledge these days of how-to.
The not-so-good: It's written (in my opinion) on an eighth-grade level. I understand trying to appeal to a mass audience, but I appreciate instruction that doesn't patronize me. The typos and grammar really need work, but I can generally overlook that.
The 14-day body sculpting workout calls for chest presses and tricep extensions the first day and shoulder presses the second day. Wouldn't shoulder presses done the day after chest and triceps exercises overwork the triceps? Probably a minor point, but I'd have like to seen that addressed.
The bad: What bothers me are the references to websites that imply some kind of support, whether in the form of media, discussion groups or email--when in fact it's all about selling you more stuff.
[...] and [...] are the same site. The links that aren't broken ALL redirect to a shopping site, getfitnow.stores.yahoo.net with the default page of the Top 20 Most Popular Items.
[...] redirects to hugorivera.net, a site that's short on substance. It apparently hasn't been updated since March/April 2008. However, click on any purchase link and you're redirected to [...], another sales site.
So any fresh News and Tips, any Discussion Groups, those seem to have disappeared. But by god, those sales pages are chugging along!
At least these guys could have kept the web references current and active, or not have put them in the book in the first place. Oh well.
I still recommend the book with accompanying DVD. There is a lot of useful information inside; just overlook the fact it's not written toward us older guys in our 40s."

"This book is a must have if you are serious about good nutrition and getting into shape. After 4 weeks of following their nutritional guide and their workout guide, I am in as good of shape as I was while in my early 20's as an airborne ranger in the military."

"This is a great book to get started in the gym. My husband and I bought these books to get some ideas for workouts. You can cater it to your own needs or you can follow their routine."

"Great book for beginners. Outlines a bit of nutrition, good explanations of exercises, avoids requiring professional equipment, and gives some good startup workout plans."
