ABOUT THE BOOK
Polls consistently show that addressing problems in our health care system remains a top concern for most Americans. Yet despite these findings, health care spending is out of control, and little relief is in sight.
Even more alarming is the fact that 60 percent of people who go to a doctor have stress-related symptoms--ailments that are preventable with less expensive and less invasive alternative therapies that reconnect the mind to the body for whole body wellness.
This book will help you:
- Understand why the majority of our medical problems do not need heroic medical intervention.
- Gain an appreciation of the mind-body connection.
- Reconnect the brain to the body for better overall health.
- Avoid unnecessary medical procedures.
- Become healthier, happier, and stress-free.
"Dr. Rudy Kachmann is one of a growing number of physicians that recognises the connection between the mind and the body. What happens in the mind ultimately affects the body and what happens in the body ultimately affects the mind. It was once thought that most of the messages in our body were transmitted via the nervous system with the neurotransmitters being an intermediary chemical necessary to carry out this task. We now know that neuropeptides are responsible for probably most of the intercommunication between the nervous system and the rest of the cells in the body. What a radical concept. Every thought that we think is linked to a particular emotional state and it is this thought-emotion complex that is responsible for the production of a particular neuropeptide. This neuropeptide in turn has an effect on the physical body. The state of the physical body also determines what neuropeptides will be produced and these neurochemicals in turn will affect our emotional state. Although this concept is not new, Dr. Kachmann has presented it with extreme clarity. This paradigm presents many possibilities for the treatment of human ills.
Kachmann spends considerable time discussing the neurobiology of stress and its effects on the human organism. He tells how the stress response leads to ills in the human body and what measures can be taken to reverse this response. Concepts previously theorized by Cannon, Selye, and Green are discussed. This concept of stress is taken as a starting point to detail later in the book the many modalties that can be used as non-invasive therapy that gets to the heart of the problem, not just symptom elimination.
The placebo response is looked at in a positive light rather than in the negative way it is usually discussed. Kachmann tells us as have others in the past that our expectations are carried out on the physical level; essentially our beliefs become our biology. Pills and procedures given by your doctor are looked at in terms of the placebo response. We know that our body has its own pharmacy and we can use it to our benefit if we learn how to access it. The nocebo response is also discussed and how it unknowingly may affect the outcome of a health issue.
Our national health crisis is talked about in detail and how the recognition of a new paradigm is needed in order to get a handle on this issue. I believe that every politician in a capacity of making healthcare policy should take a look at this book. The contents of this book seem to be the only logical solution to a seemingly insurmountable problem. Will reason or money win the hearts of those in a policymaking capacity? Kachmann has given us the framework for change and now it is up to our leaders to apply facts to real problems.
In summary, anyone interested in the mind/body connection and how it works should pick up a copy of this book. Its simplicity and clarity can be understood by almost anyone. Better yet, pick up a copy for your elected officials. It might keep you out of bankruptcy someday. Dr. Kachmann has given us a very good read.
