Most textbooks of clinical medicine are written by authors in Western countries. Asia has 60% of the world's population and the disease pattern in this region is, in many aspects, quite different from that of the West. Textbook of Clinical Medicine for Asia is written by a group of local experts in Hong Kong. While it is based on Western medicine, this book places particular emphasis on diseases prevalent in Asia, e.g., IgA nephropathy, recurrent pyogenic cholangitis, thyrotoxic period paralysis and many other infections. The use of herbal drugs and their possible toxic effects are also included. Designed primarily for use by medical students and trainees in internal medicine, the book should also be an interesting reference for physicians who practice in Asia as well as physicians in the West who occasionally see Asian patients.

"This book is neither comprehensive or deep enough for students and practitioners. As a result, one hardly knows what the target reader this book is written for. If it is aimed for the general reader, then it's a bit too academic and dry (it's not very well written from a linguistic perspective). For the practitioner, it is of very limited use. A disappointing publication."

"It isn't a good reference for internal medicine but it's concise practical handbook for quick cross-reference and revision.
Compared to other textbook of similar size, such as Davidson's, it lacks concise review of important anatomy and physiology, detailed explanation of pathophysiology, colourful illustrations, and useful tables. These drawbacks make it too difficult for medical students starting clinical practice to read and understand, and too brief for doctors to look up detailed description and explanation.
However, it contains many useful diagnostic criteria and practical management guidelines, which are useful for final-year students and even junior doctors. Moreover, its concise descriptions of disease makes it appropiate for examinations."
