"I have by now read or heard or seen everything Deepak Chopra has produced. I came back to this program having gone through his most recent works: How to Know God (incl. excellent DVD version), Book of Secrets, Life After Death and Buddha, Story of Enlightenment. All amazing and informative and inspiring. However, I still had some basic roadblocks even these works (plus intensive exposure to Eckhart Tolle and others) weren't reaching. So after alll that, I picked up a two-cassette version of The Higher Self in a used book store and found seemingly a whole new take. Unfortunately, this material doesn't seem to exist in book form, but I was delighted to find this 7-disc version which expanded explicitly on the cassette abridgement and has been blowing my mind for several months. Deepak encapsulates a lot of the material he was teaching in the early 90s (when this was recorded), but it is all about spiritual, mental and emotional transcendence, with only passing references to Ayurveda (which I've always found diluted the primary teaching). In this work he expands your concept of the self and the universe and then takes you though the process of how we create our personal and cultural personnae -- and how to transcend those to be in touch with your soul/higher self.
I will say there was one area that I wanted expanded further still and that was his references to the "seeds of memory and desire." I found a complete explanation of this in another program from the period, an abridged version of his Journey to the Boundless weekend workshops, also available on Amazon.
The workshop goes heavily into Ayurveda, but the first disc and a half complete and complement the discussion begun in the Higher Self program.
Actually, I attended a Journey to the Boundless workshop in the mid-90s having become a fan of Chopra's from his early PBS pledge-break programs. Ironically, I'd been lamenting recently that I wished I'd had access to the material in the Higher Self back then only to find I'd sat through a lot of it. So obviously, I wasn't ready to receive the value from it I am now.
This is an amazing tool, more explicit than almost anything now available, including Chopra's own body of recent work. If you've stumbled upon this out of curiosity, I say Go for it! You won't be sorry!"
