Dynamic Posture is a term used by sports coaches and other practitioners and refers to the movement patterns and alignment of a person’s body during activity and is more than just their static posture.
In order to avoid injury during activity, a person’s dynamic posture often needs to be improved, as it influences the way they move and mis-alignments frequently result in pain and can cause damage.
The concept of dynamic posture has some similarities with part of F M Alexander’s concept of ‘use‘ but is not the same. Alexander’s understanding of use incorporates our whole being, our mind as well as our body. Alexander referred to the unity of our psychophysical mechanisms and in Alexander Technique lessons, it is important to attend to our thoughts and the quality of our use during both activity and quietness – as well as attending to our alignment, balance and co-ordination whilst we perform movements.
